Comets stopped in final seconds

Monday night’s Region 5 battle between District 10’s Underwood and District 9’s Flasher went down to the wire at the Bismarck Events Center, the two teams battling to the
end, with Flasher’s Steven Schmid’s jumper with about 20 seconds remaining in the game, giving the Bulldogs a 52-50 lead. That lead would be enough to hold on to the first-round win, as Underwood’s Parker Christenson was thwarted as he put up a final shot from the paint for the Comets, with no call for a foul, giving the Bulldogs the win.
The final seconds of the game were indicative of the entire 32 minutes as both teams used aggressive, scrappy defense to harass one another. “It was physical the entire
game, and that’s the way we like to play,” said Underwood Head Coach Alex Jangula. “It’s tournament time, and good teams play aggressively, and that’s what we want to see.
You want to see players on the floor, not sitting on the bench because they’re in foul trouble.
