County tourney ends with Comets in eighth place

The Underwood Comet boys met the Mandaree Warriors in the seventh place game of the McLean County tournament last Saturday afternoon in Washburn. The Comets were looking for their first win of the season. The Comets took the tip and junior Matt Landenberger put the first points on the scoreboard. Mandaree was able to answer and the score was tied at two. The Comets led by three at one point in the first quarter when junior Nick Lee hit a three-pointer from the top of the key. Mandaree was able to tie the game up at nine with 3:12 left in the quarter. The Warriors led 15-11 after the first quarter. The Comets would only lead one more time in this game when sophomore Jeremy Wirtz banked a shot from the left side to lead 16-15. After that the Warriors outscored the Comets 14-3. The Comets went into the locker room with a 10-point deficit.
