Cougars return state qualifiers

The McLean County Cougars track teams probably don’t have enough numbers to take top honors at the big track meets this year, but coach Lee Weisgarber thinks they’ve got enough numbers and enough talent to place in the top 10 consistently – at least, that’s his goal.
There are 11 girls and 15 boys on this year’s varsity track and field team.
With three state-qualifying relay runners and a state-qualifying long jumper returning for the girls team, the Cougars should be able to pick up some points in the running and jumping events, said Weisgarber, while on the boys side of the team, it’s the throwers that should be picking up the lion’s share of the points, as well as middle and long-distance runner Cole Wilson.
Freshmen McKenna Wilson, Mackenzie Snyder and sophomore Emily Eichhorst all return from last year’s state-qualifying two-mile relay team, while junior Mariah Sellon is a repeat state qualifier in the long jump.
Senior Chailee Berg should also be able to contribute some points in the sprints, noted Weisgarber, while junior Madison Holm should be a contender in the middle distance as well as relays.
