The Central McLean Cougars had a strong start Saturday as they counted four runs in both the first and second innings on their way to an 11-7 defeat of Ray at the Lake Brekken Field near Turtle Lake.
That win gave the Cougars a split for the week’s action after losing to Wilton-Wing a day earlier by the score of 21-6, giving up nine runs in the last inning.
Cougar coach Kyle Hunt was happy to see his team come back strong after the loss to Wilton-Wing.
"The girls bounced back after a tough loss to Wilton-Wing," said Hunt, regarding the win over Ray.
"We did an okay job of keeping them off the base, and our defense made a few key stops," he added. "We also manufactured a few runs and took advantage of some of their mistakes."
Zoe Smalls picked up the win on the hill, while Maria Wirtz was good for a pair of RBIs and a single.
