Cougars close regular season with big win
The Central McLean Cougars girls basketball team capped off a near-flawless regular season in commanding fashion on February 7, defeating Our Redeemer’s 58-28 at home in Underwood.
The win improved the Cougars to 18-1 on the season and secured them the top seed in the NDHSAA Division B Region 4 District 8 Tournament, set to take place in Washburn from February 14-17.
While the final score reflected the Cougars’ dominance, the game didn’t start entirely in their favor.
Our Redeemer’s came out aggressive in the first quarter, taking an early 17-10 lead.
However, Central McLean responded with a strong second quarter, outscoring their opponents 19-4 to take a 29-21 lead into halftime.
From there, they never looked back, extending their advantage to 44-26 by the end of the third quarter before closing the game with a 14-2 run in the final frame.
