Cougars capture emotional victory
BY TODD M. KJELLAND
It had been 11 years since the gym walls of McClusky High School absorbed the sounds of a varsity volleyball victory. Thursday the Central McLean Cougars filled the stands with deafening school spirit in a good old-fashioned barn burner. The Cougars defeated the Kidder County Wolves 25-21, 18-25, 25-22, 20-25, and 15-13.
In the deciding set the Cougars jumped out to a fourpoint advantage early leading 8-4, however, the Wolves fought back to tie the game at 10-10, prompting a Cougars timeout by coach Whitney Jangula.
Coming out of the break, a line violation gave the Wolves their first lead 11-10, but then a service error gave the Cougars a point right back to again tie the set. Central McLean scored next to lead 12-11, but that was short lived as a couple of misplays gave the Wolves the lead back at 13-12. The Cougars tied the score again at 13-13 before a kill by Lilly Eng set up game point. A perfectly timed block at the net by Laura Eichhorst sealed the win for the Cougars and erupted the spirited crowd.
