Cougar football, blizzard style
By Mary Hefta
The Central McLean Cougars traveled to Wilton last Friday night. Although the air was chilly, no one would imagine that by halftime there would be an all out blizzard. Fortunately the Cougars were able to score 52 points in the first half allowing the reserves to enjoy lots of playing time in the second half. Senior back Grant Singer scored the first touchdown with a 30-yard run in the early seconds of the first quarter. The PAT was good and the Cougars led 8-0. After a Miner fumble on the next kickoff, Singer was able to dash 25 yards into the end zone for another touchdown. That PAT was unsuccessful. Senior back Mick Finneman garnered the next touchdown with a four-yard run into the Miner end zone and the PAT was also successful. Senior defensive back Trevor Thomas nabbed an interception early in the next Wilton-Wing series and rushed 38 yards for a Cougar defensive touchdown. The PAT run failed. Singer added one more touchdown to his stats while Dylan Ruff added the PAT run. Cougar senior quarterback Jordan Sundquist completed a 35-yard reception to Thomas and the PAT run was good as well. At the end of the first quarter the Cougars tallied a 44-0 lead.
