Cougar baseball takes Garrison in season opener

In the first game of the season, the Central McLean Cougars accomplished two goals. First, they immediately improved on last year’s win-loss record. But most importantly, they brought home a 2-0 win against the Garrison Troopers who stopped the Cougars at the regional level last year. Head Coach Andrew Zurcher was encouraged by the wins. He said, "It was an exciting start to the new season. I was very proud of the way we played. I felt the kids came together as a unit and showed promise of a competitive season." The Cougars won 8-6 and 5-4 against the Troopers. "The momentum of those two games is key going into our region games this week," said Zurcher. "We had nice performances from our pitchers and our defense played well when we needed mistake-free baseball." Jeremy Wirtz and Brendon Reinbold were the standout players for the Cougars. Zurcher and Assistant Coach Scott Klett have seen a lot of improvement since last year’s rebuilding year when they brought home only one win. The goal is to have a more competitive team this year and the wins against Garrison set the bar for the season.
