The Underwood Comets head into some district territory in the next coming weeks after playing five non-district games to start the season, including four games over the holiday break.
The Comets picked up one win over the break, knocking off White Shield 52-40, which was keeping in line with the Comets’ defensive plan if they can keep teams to below 40 points, they’ve got a shot at the win.
What really impressed Underwood Coach Steve Cottingham, though, was that the following night, he watched White Shield score 85 points against their opponents.
"Overall, we did a pretty nice job defensively against them," said Cottingham. "And offensively, we were pretty aggressive. We got to the free throw line a bunch.
Underwood netted 15 of 23 shots from the charity stripe.
When White Shield tried to ramp up its defense the fourth quarter, the Comets dug deeper.
