Comettes aiming for hip-hop title and more

The Underwood Comettes will be taking on the top Class B dance teams this Friday and Saturday when they travel to the Alerus Center in Grand Forks to compete in the North Dakota Association of Dance and Drill State Competition. Their goal – to bring home the Class B hip-hop title, which they did in 2008 and 2011. While the group of six dancers will also be competing in the jazz, pom and high kick categories as well, the team favorite is hip-hop, and it’s also what they think they have the best shot at for the title, which is currently held by the Carrington Cardinaires. Taking the title in hip-hop is just one of the goals. “I want to at least make finals in every event,” said senior dancer Kaylee Tishmack. And yes, she has her eyes set on the hip-hop prize. “Because we were state champions one year, and I want to get it back.” Kaylee was a member of the state championship team from two years ago, as were teammates Miriah Schneider, Brianne Halstead and Paige Weisenberger. New to the team this year are rookies Danielle Halstead, Lindsey Landenberger and Eden Johannes, who was hit with a bad bout of the flu earlier this year, and bowed out of the state competition.
