Comets triumph in OT

The Underwood girls basketball capped their regular season with a rousing overtime win over Surrey Monday night, turning back the come-back Mustangs 59-51 despite the Comets’ struggling to put the ball through the hole repeatedly during the overtime.
The Mustangs, however, had even more trouble putting the ball through the hole in the OT, as they were scoreless in the extra stanza.
Still, it was frustrating to see shot after shot rim out for her Comet players, said Underwood’s Toni Cottingham.
"We had opportunity after opportunity, with nice shots that we want -- not long ones -- and I’m not sure what happened, but I’m proud of them for crashing the boards," said Cottingham. "They went after it, and it was their desire that got them the second and third chances on that."
After leading the majority of the game, the Comets found themselves trailing 51-49 with fewer than 20 seconds remaining in regulation.
