The Underwood Comets dove into this year’s volleyball season heads and bodies first, playing in the Bottineau Invitational Saturday, coming home with fourth place.
The Comets played about seven and a half hours of volleyball Saturday, bringing home fourth place in the tournament, after falling to Velva 2-1 in the Comets’ final match of the day.
The tournament consisted of four pools of three teams. The Comets tied for first in pool play by beating Towner-Granville-Upham, then splitting with identical points against Rugby.
After head to head the Panthers scored more points in total pool play, so we took second in the pool by just one point, noted Comet Coach Mary Hefta, guaranteeing the Comets two more games in the tournament.
“I am very pleased with our play on Saturday,“ said Hefta. “By the end of the late afternoon, we were exhausted.”
