Comets start strong in early hoops games

The Underwood Comets got the 2018-19 hoops season off to a rousing start, winning the first three games of the season.
The Comets started by bumping off New Salem on the Holsteins’ home turf, winning by the score of 52-30 Tuesday. They followed up Friday and Saturday, knocking off Richardton-Taylor by the score of 48-35 in Washburn, and Divide County 28-25 in Turtle Lake Saturday, both games part of the McLean County Shootout.
Starting with the wins is great, noted Underwood Coach Gary Ballard, but there are some things the team needs to work on as the Comets move into games against tougher competition and district games.
“It’s’ take care of the basketball better’ – there are way too many turnovers, and just get better with shot selection and making more shots. And, of course, as every coach says, we’ve got to rebound better,” said Ballard.
But, he added, the effort was there in all three games.
“The girls worked really hard – and we’re going to get better,” he added.
