Brooke Weisenberger tossed in a three-pointer for Underwood with just three second remaining in Tuesday’s Region 5 semifinal game against Grant County, putting the score at 47-45 and keeping the Comets within striking distance if they could get a quick turnover off the in-bounds pass on their end, but the Coyotes kept control the ball as they moved the ball to their end of the floor, moving themselves to the Region 5 title game.
The Coyotes will be taking on Shiloh Christian in the title match-up, while Underwood will take on Standing Rock in the third-place battle.
“The game came down to them making one more play than us down at the end,” said Underwood Coach Jared Kautzman.
After alternating minutes of lead-changing momentum during the game, the Comets led by one point going into the final minute of play.
Grant County’s Camryn Alt connected on the frontend of a bonus, tying the game. She missed the next shot, but teammate Taylor Roehl latched on to the rebound, tossing in a quick put-back bucket that would give the Coyotes the 44-42 lead.
