Comets get ‘schooled’ by Wilton in title game

By Suzanne Werre, BHG News Service

Chalk it up as a lesson learned. That’s how Underwood Comets coach Toni Cottingham is looking at this past weekend’s McLean County Tournament runner-up finish in Wilton. The Comets were knocked off by the home-standing Wilton Miners 43-33 in the championship game Saturday night. In other tournament action, top-seeded Turtle Lake-Mercer knocked off Washburn 41-28 for third place, Garrison beat Max 61-32 for fifth place and Warwick bumped off White Shield 43-32 for seventh place. “This is what you call a learning moment,” said Cottingham, regarding Saturday night’s title game. “We learned that no matter what type of game we’re playing, no matter who you’re playing, every individual needs to go out and do what they’ve been practicing.”
