Comets facing Max in tourney opener

Underwood coach Steve Cottingham is looking for two key things to happen with his boys basketball team this weekend as the Comets take on Max in opening-round action at the District 10 tournament. Better ball handling and better shooting.

"We’ve got to take care of the ball," said Cottingham, recalling the first time the Comets took on this Friday’s opponent, Max, during the regular season. "They score a large portion of their points off of turnovers.

"If we take care of the ball and just get a reasonable amount of production offensively, then whatever happens, happens," he added.

The Comets were in a scoring drought the past few games, as they lost the last three regular season games 65-25 to Surrey, 57-33 to Sawyer, and 73-35 to Center-Stanton.

The Friday game against Sawyer was especially frigid for the Comets, as they put up 28 three-pointers, netting just one. But they weren’t bad shots, noted Cottingham.
