The Comet girls upped their Region 5 regular-season record to 4-2 and dropped the New Salem-Almont Holsteins to 2-5 this past Tuesday after turning back the home-standing Holsteins by the score of 3-1.
Underwood turned up the defensive intensity as senior hitter Taysha Snyder tallied seven blocks, while fellow senior Emma Brunelle was good for two blocks. Senior libero Maggie Eng was good for 32 digs to lead the back row defense while Snyder was good for 20.
“I thought our girls played well,” commented Underwood Head Coach Jordyn Singer. “We served tough and really hustled -- Overall, I thought we played really well, and made adjustments against a New Salem-Almont team that challenged us.”
“Maggie had a good game in the back row, getting a lot of touches and digs. Taysha had an all-around good game, and Lauren served really well,” she added. “(Jacobson) challenged New Salem-Almont with her serves, which was great.”
Senior setter Lauren Jacobson was good for five aces while Snyder was good for three.
The Comets took game one in a close match by the score of 25-22, then struggled as the Holsteins rallied in game two, taking the set by the score of 25-19.
