Comet netters have a busy week
By Mary Hefta
Once again the Comet volleyball team was stymied by the Wilton-Wing Miners in district action last Friday night. The Comets started out the match in strong fashion with heavy hitting offensively and strong defense. However, after game one all the momentum went to the Miners. The Comets needed the win to lock in first or second in the district standings. Results for the district 10 tournament will be available after the district meeting that will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 21 in Turtle Lake. Although the match didn’t go as the Comets would have liked, the team will not be seeded any lower than third, and that is a great accomplishment for the Comets. Alix Auck led the offense for the Comets with 17 kills. Senior captains Becca Lawson and Crystal Dammen each added seven kills for the Comets. Sophomore Taylor Sorensen hit three hard driven spikes while juniors Chorisa Hirschkorn and Rachel Neff each added two kills. The Comets continue to have depth at the net and hope to use that depth to put some more notches in the win column. Dammen led with 26 assists. Auck and freshman Sam Cottingham each added one assist in the set column. Neff and Lawson each added three aces to their stats while Auck and Dammen each had two service aces.
