Comet netters drop two

It’s still a toss-up who will automatically be earning berths at the upcoming regional tournament in Bismarck, but this past Thursday’s 3-0 loss to Shiloh Christian didn’t do the Underwood Comets any favors.
But the loss to Shiloh, and Monday’s 3-0 loss to Kidder County, will both prepare the Comets for some tough regional action when that time comes.
“Regionals are close,” commented Underwood Coach Clarissa Kruger. “Where we will be placed in regions will come down to the last region game. We are still fighting for that spot so we don’t have a play-in game.”
Monday’s loss to Kidder County saw the teams battle through extra points before Kidder County was able to win the first two sets 26-24. The final set was a little easier for the Lady Pirates, who won by the score of 25-20.
Senior hitter Mackenzie Snyder was all over the floor Monday night, leading the Comets in digs with 27 and kills with six, while Thursday night it was senior hitter Maria Wirtz who was everywhere on the court, counting five kills, four blocks and seven digs for the Comets. Wirtz was also good for three aces in the loss to Shiloh, while Kaylie Wilson tallied two aces against Kidder County.
