Comet girls open season Friday

Not playing in the Region 5 girls basketball tournament last year was no fun for the Underwood girls basketball team. They don’t plan on sitting it out this year.
They don’t care that this year’s Hoopster has them ranked as fifth in the district in the preseason poll.
"That’s fine with me," said Comet coach Toni Cottingham. "I would rather be an underdog."
Leading the way back from last year’s 12-10 season are senior posts Madison Holm and Leah Kibbell, as well as junior utility player Brooke Weisenberger and sophomore guards Mackenzie Snyder and McKenna Wilson.
Cottingham looks at the quickness of Weisenberger, Snyder and Wilson to be one of the major strengths the Comets have this year. They also have a lot of court awareness.
