Underwood seniors Maggie Eng and Taysha Snyder provided the one-two punch in both of their season openers this past week in shoot-out action, and freshman Ashtyn Smith provided the double-digit knock-out punch Saturday against Warwick as the Comets bested the Warriors by a dominating score of 76-23.
Friday night the Comets topped Divide County 49-27 led by a 17-point effort from Eng and 11 from Snyder, while Saturday Snyder led the way with 21. Eng was good for 14 points and Smith added 12 for the double-figure scoring from the Comets.
The Comets’ dominance started early and didn’t let up Saturday in Garrison on day two of the McLean County Shootout. Underwood sprinted to an early 22-5 lead at the end of the first stanza, more than doubling its score by the half as the Comets led 47-13.
“The Underwood girls’ team showed improvement in their second game of the 2019 girls basketball season,” commented Underwood Coach Gary Ballard.
