Comet girls continue hoops tear

The Underwood girls basketball team continued their tear on the competition this past week, routing opponents Tioga and White Shield by margins of 36 and 42 points, respectively. The Comets took on White Shield at the shoot-out in Minot last Monday and the Warriors of White Shield Saturday at Turtle Lake.

Still, even with the lopsided wins, Comet coach Toni Cottingham isn’t willing to let her hoopsters rest on their laurels, especially since they have three road games scheduled for this week. There were definitely some bright spots in the past two games, but also some things that still need a little shoring up, according to Cottingham.

The Comets made good on an impressive 48 percent of their shots from the field against White Shield, led by 18 points from senior guard Abby Landenberger. She was the only Comet to hit double digits in scoring, but all but one of the Comets who hit the floor scored, which was pretty good as far as Cottingham was concerned.

"The girls are very much team oriented," she said, which is good. "But we’re still not making all of the shots that we need to be making (the bunnies)," she added, which is not good.
