Comet girls chalk up three more wins

Relentless defense has been the key for the Underwood Comets girls basketball team of late, as they consistently limited their opponents to low to mid-30s in scoring, knocking off three opponents this past week, including district opponent, Max.

The Comets were on the road Monday night, defeating New Salem-Almont 54-35, and earlier (Friday) defeated Velva 40-31 after starting the week at home Tuesday with a 47-32 win over Max.

Although freshman Mackenzie Snyder paced the Comets against New Salem-Almont with her 14 points, Underwood Coach Toni Cottingham said Monday’s win against the Holsteins was definitely a team-effort win.

"We took care of the ball and made the easy plays," said Cottingham.

The Comets also out-rebounded the Holsteins 30-24 and forced 22 turnovers, while committing just 14 of their own.

"I had a number of players step up," said Cottingham. "Erin & Kenzie handled the ball and did a nice job pushing it up the floor.
