The Underwood Comets achieved one of their early-season goals by clinching a spot in the upcoming Region 5 volleyball tournament – not having to go through a play-in game to garner a berth.
The Comets, even after losing to Washburn by the score of 3-1 this past week, go into the upcoming Region 5 tournament as the fifth seed, kicking off tournament action Nov. 5 at 4:30 at the Vonderheide Gymnasium in Underwood. They’ll be playing the fourth seed, which as of Tuesday morning’s deadline, was not yet determined, as some teams were playing their final district match-ups Tuesday night.
After falling to Washburn Thursday, the Comets are looking at shoring up their offensive attack getting more aggressive, which means no more free balls going over the net.
“No free balls,” commented Underwood Coach Loretta Hansen. “We cannot have any free balls going back over.
“We need to get our good passes to our setters to be able to set it up every play,” said Hansen.
They also have to show up ready to play.
