The Underwood Comets boys’ basketball team hosted the Washburn Cardinals in district play last Tuesday night in a double-header. The Comets played a very tough first half against the Cardinals and with some good fast-break action and great passing the Comets stayed within three points of the Cardinals at halftime. After the break the Comets scored only two baskets in the first three-and-a-half minutes of play while the Cardinals shot the lights out scoring, to up the lead to 17. In the fourth quarter the Comets fought hard on defense. The Comets were able to get the ball in the hoop with a little more success but for every basket the Comets dropped in the hole the Cards were able to answer. Head coach Kyle Hunt said the game had its ups and downs. “We played very well the first half but we missed some easy baskets and free throws to start the second half. Missing these shots dug us into a hole we couldn’t get out of.”
