The first couple games of the season are usually good indicators for coaches of what they need to work on to shore up their team for the season’s competition. After this past week’s opening-season losses, the Underwood Comets see they’ve still got to ramp up their skills, and the composure that they lack because they’re young and pretty inexperienced will come with time.

"We’ve got a ways to go," said Underwood coach Steve Cottingham.

The Comets dropped their first two matchups of the season Friday and Saturday night to Warwick 82-39 and White Shield 64-42, respectively.

The loss to White Shield came after the Comets wiped out an 8-0 White Shield start as the Comets took a 24-22 lead into half-time. The second half, though, belonged to White Shield, as the Warriors outscored the Comets 42-18.
