CMC Cougars fall short in semi-finals

The Cent ral McLean Cougars were defeated by Shiloh 3-1 in the semi-finals at the region 5 volleyball tournament Tuesday, after
defeat ing the Washburn Ca r d i n a l s 3 - 0 i n t he quarterfinals Monday. The Skyhawks jumped to an early 9-3 lead in the first
set of semi-final play. The Cougars never recovered, even after clawing back from an 8-point def icient . The Cougars held the Skyhawks
at 24 for five unanswered points. Shiloh scored the final point and won the set. The second set started with back-and-forth points
for each team, until a few good blocks quickly turned the momentum for the Cougars, gaining a 17-10 lead. Shiloh responded and closed
the gap. With the score 24-23, CMC senior Ari Hornberger filled a gap as well, driving a strategically placed spike in between Shiloh players for the win. The Cougars lost the third set 25-23 and the match set 21-25.
