By the narrowest of margins…

Two one-hundredths of a pound is the weight of three or four pennies. It’s also a $6,000 difference in prize money at the 2010 Dakota Walleye Classic. In one of the closest tournaments in years, the top five teams were within 1 pound of winning the whole tournament. At 26.62 pounds, the team of Beulah’s D.J. Erickson and his brother Jason Erickson of Dickinson were tantalizingly close to taking home the $10,000 first place money. However, consistency beat out a big first day as the team of Jeff Enzminger and Jordan Binstock, Bismarck, put together nearly identical catches both days to take home top honors at 26.64 pounds. Both teams said there was no big secret to their success this weekend. When asked, both replied, "Just fishing hard," with nightcrawlers and leeches on red hooks. "It was nightcrawlers and fishing by weeds," Enzminger said. "We did good prefishing and we did good in the tournament. We got on to them right away and just had a great tournament. We fished four or five different areas that are popular. One spot was a secret weed spot and that’s where we caught some of our better ones."
