Boys get first win

The Underwood Comet boys basketball team hosted the New Salem Holsteins last Tuesday night in nonconference action. The Comets were on a quest for a win and met that goal in exciting fashion. The Comets took control from the beginning. Junior Matt Landenberger tipped the ball to the Comets and fellow junior Dillon Aldinger played hard to garner the first basket of the game. Aldinger grabbed the first defensive rebound of the game and sophomore Jeremy Wirtz nailed a three-pointer from the right side. The Comets led 5-0 in the first three minutes of the game. Aldinger hit the next two points of the game with a floater style layup while sophomore Carlos Hernandez banked in a two-point shot just in front of the key. The Comets led 11-3 after Landenberger nabbed a defensive rebound, got off a nifty pass to junior Nick Lee who dropped the ball in the hoop for two. With just 1.8 seconds left in the quarter the Holsteins hit a halfcourt buzzer-beater and the quarter ended 13-8 in favor of the Comets.
