The Comets were determined not to let New Salem-Almont turn some little runs at them into an all-out run-away Monday night, as the Comets held off a battling Holstein team 54-46 to advance to the semifinal round of the Region 5 Girls Basketball Tournament at Mandan.

Underwood senior post Emma Lee, who found herself watching much of the second half from bench as she was sidelined with 6:20 left in the third stanza when she picked up her fourth foul, says she never doubted the Comets would be able to hold onto the win – and she found a way to keep herself in the game without fouling out when she got back in the game.

"I told myself, ‘just don’t foul Emma, don’t foul," she smiled. "After the last loss, we all knew we were going to get after it . . . we had all the confidence in the world here."

The Holsteins made several runs at the Comets, but Underwood was able to hold a lead at each of the breaks, the greatest margin (other than the finish) was at the end of three quarters when the Comets led 40-33.
