Young archers aiming for bulls-eye with new club

A small group of archery enthusiasts met this past Thursday in Underwood in an effort to see what they can do about becoming a much larger group of archery enthusiasts. Headed by Sandi Erber and Antenniell Neumiller, the leaders of McLean County Shooting Sports, Thursday’s meeting of adult and young archers was the first real step in starting a club which would encourage youth archery in the county as a competitive sport. “They’ve done a couple tournaments, and we’re wanting to form a club so we can get a little more stable with funds and support so that we can continue to grow and involve more kids, and afford to do that,” said Erber. Letters have recently been sent to businesses throughout McLean County asking for monetary donations to purchase equipment and supplies, and to defray the cost of entry fees. Thursday’s meeting was to get the actual archery club started and elect officers. Next will be finding a place to host the archery meetings/practices on a regular basis and opening up membership to other children. The club will first be open to 4-H members, but pretty soon it will be open to all children throughout the county, although children must be at least nine years old to join.
