Voters say ‘yes’ to fewer board members

The Underwood School Board will have fewer members after this spring’s June election after voters this past Tuesday approved reducing the board from its current seven members to an eventual five members as terms expire. The board canvassed the votes from Tuesday’s election at the regular monthly meeting shortly after the polls closed. A total of 41 votes were cast, with a total of 35 votes in favor, 6 against, the eventual elimination of two of the positions. The first position, the at-large position currently held by board president Dan Leidholm, will be eliminated at the June election. Next year’s school board election will eliminate the rural position currently held by Kelli Ruff. The vote was 26-2 in favor of the reduction at the Underwood polling sites, and 9 to 4 in Riverdale.
