V & S renovation more than a facelift
Restoration of the former V & S Variety Store is more than a facelift for Main Street, it is an investment in Underwood’s economic future, say investors with Underwood Commercial Properties Incorporated. Mic Johnson, an investor with UCPI, is both working on and supervising contractors hired for the restoration of the V & S building. He said the brick is now being tuck pointed and a new roof will be put on the building. The front already has a new look, as the sign has been removed. UCPI plans to put in a new heating and air conditioning system, in addition to cleaning up the interior. Johnson said there won’t be a great deal more done inside until they find someone to lease the building, in order to meet the renter’s needs. Becky Bowen, the recently hired community development director for Underwood, said UCPI was formed to meet areas deemed most critical in the recent community survey, the beautification study of last summer and the needs to satisfy the Underwood Vision Statement.
