Turtle Lake’s Vickie Hill performs at historic venue
BY TODD M. KJELLAND
Vickie Hill, an inspired musician from Turtle Lake participated in the annual Merle Clark Memorial Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering Sept. 11 at the historic Mystic Theater in Marmath. The Mystic Theater is believed to be the oldest theatre in the state, that was built
as a theater and remains a theater today.
“It was special to me to perform at the Mystic on 9/11 as a reminder to not take anything for granted and to be grateful,” said Hill.
This year was Hill’s third performance at the famous venue. “The theater is so cool,” said Hill. “It’s musty and dusty with an old piano sitting in there. The stage slopes forward so any amps on wheels need to be locked so nothing rolls forward. It’s reminiscent of these old theaters that they have turned into music venues where they do old opry shows. I’d rather perform at these types of venues than to play at a bar.”
