Trees, Quonset major losses from storm

The power went out in Turtle Lake about three minutes after it went out in Underwood this past Tuesday night – somewhere around 11:48 p.m. Between the two towns in central McLean County, the storm, with winds measuring between 75 and 85 miles per hour, ramped up, destroying a Quonset at the Chad and Jen Berg farm just east of Underwood, before making its way to Turtle Lake. Once there, the devastation was obvious by Tuesday morning, with several downed trees toppled at the roots as well as snapped limbs
from 100-year-old trees that still stood after weathering another Nor th Dakota summer storm. Walnut Street in Turtle Lake was st rewn with limbs, and the playground
at the school was littered with evergreen branches, the remnants of the two evergreen trees that had been in the school’s playground, now uprooted and lying across the bent and destroyed playground equipment.
