Trashed, thrashed corn doesn’t shake farmer’s spirit

It came in three waves, each one stronger than the last, leaving a swath about three miles wide and 20 miles long.
Sunday night farmer Kyle Wardner was fertilizing his irrigated corn, talking about how good the crop looked.
The next morning it was gone.
“Oh yeah, it’s gone,” he said as he talked with a neighboring farmer.
The 130 acres of corn that was taller than his own 6-feet was destroyed by hail Sunday night.
“Yesterday I couldn’t even reach the top, and it’s below my waist now,” he said about the crop he was growing about five miles north of Turtle Lake.
