Tobacco Coalition says ‘no excuses’

Jenell Olson understands the threat tobacco poses because she quit smoking 14 years ago. As a member of the McLean County Tobacco Coalition, Olson addressed the McLean County Commission on Monday to discuss the progress of the coalition, which is part of the McLean County Interagency group. The multidisciplinary group meets every month in communities across the county to discuss issues that face McLean County residents, said Olson of the McLean County Resource Center in Washburn. "As a former smoker, I’m really concerned about young people and access to tobacco," Olson said. "It is the responsibility of the clerk to be sure that individual is of the right age." Holly Brekhus of First District Health Unit of Minot said compliance checks have been the Tobacco Coalition’s main focus. "The Sheriff’s department has been absolutely terrific," Olson said. "The deputies have really done a fine job with compliance checks."
