TLM English scores up

Filling staffing needs for the upcoming school year is well underway at the Turtle Lake-Mercer School as Supt. Sheila Schlafmann reported to the school board at Monday’s regular monthly meeting.

Following Schlafmann’s recommendation, the board approved the hiring of Underwood’s Samantha Slavik as Dean of Students starting this fall. Slavik’s title will be that of Dean of Students until Sept. 17, at which time she will be on track to earning her Master’s Degree, and will transition to the position of School Counselor.

The board was also updated on the search for a Special Ed. teacher. There are multiple Special Ed. openings across the state, so it may be difficult to find a Special Ed instructor. However, noted Schlafmann, there are options that appear to be viable for the Turtle Lake-Mercer School using current staff members who have been working in the Special Ed area, but that is still in the process of being worked out.
