TL-M FFA students take on state

While most high school students consider themselves done with the 2017-18 school year, several Turtle Lake-Mercer students are joining other Future Farmers of America members at the state FFA convention this week in Fargo.
The convention culminates a year’s worth of FFA activities, including several competitions, where students will compete individually and as teams in career development events (CDEs) to see how much they’ve learned throughout their time in FFA.
They will be tested on floriculture, agriculture mechanics, employment skills, nursery and landscape and meats evaluation, as well as several other categories.
Three of the members, Ryeleigh Laib, Rhea Laib and Aaron Klain got in one last practice for their CDEs this past Tuesday, competing in Carrington.
They also competed in Denver, CO. earlier this year, and Stillwater, OK, honing their skills in preparation for this week’s competitions at the state convention. North Dakota doesn’t have a meat-processing facility that the students can visit to get a real hands-on viewing of different cuts of meat, they noted, so this year they traveled to Colorado and Oklahoma so they could possibly get a head up on the state’s competition.
