TL-M board considers other hoops option

The Turtle Lake-Mercer School Board members aren’t willing to go with a full co-op at this point, but that’s not to say they’re not willing to look into some options.
The board members, administration and Activities Director Wes Jacobson spent about an hour of Wednesday’s board meeting discussing the recent co-op meeting between representatives of the three schools involved in the Central McLean Cougars co-op, touching on the future of the co-op.
The consensus from the recent co-op committee meeting in McClusky was that Underwood and McClusky are both interested in expanding the co-op to include all sports, while Turtle Lake-Mercer is not.
No action was taken on changing the co-op, but Jacobson volunteered to contact the North Dakota High School Activities Association to get some data regarding how co-ops affect participation in sports. It’s not necessarily an issue of low enrollment for schools that feel the need to enter into a co-op – often it’s more an issue of students not participating, and the board members want to know if NDHSAA has any data that can give any insight into what the schools could be looking at as far as numbers if they enter into a full co-op.
“We’re looking for some other solutions in the meantime because if Underwood truly needs help with their numbers, it would be nice if we could help them out,” said board president Gerard Goven.
