Tiny Turtles revamps kitchen

The kids at Tiny Turtles Daycare in Turtle Lake probably don’t care very much, but they’ve got a new and improved kitchen at their home-away-from-home.
Gone are the circa 1970s orange flooring and variegated beige Marlite walls. The minimalistic kitchen served the city well for a lot of years, but when the Tiny Turtles moved in about six years ago, it was obvious some changes needed to be made.
“There weren’t any cupboards,” said Linda Huelsman, Tiny Turtles board member. “There is so much more storage, and now it’s all the way around. It’s just going to be so much nicer.
“This just needed to be done,” she added.
Getting the kitchen renovated has been a goal of Huelsman’s for quite a while, she noted, and the daycare center was fortunate to get some grants that helped pay for much of the project.
The daycare received $5000 from the Pat-NOW community fund through Farm Credit Services, $2500 from McLean Electric Cooperative, and the daycare was about to raise about $2500 through other fundraising. The city is also chipping in to help cover the costs of the daycare, which is located in the city hall.
