The Best U Can Be

Underwood Elementary Principal Derrick Gross and members of the school’s design team revealed the new “Underwood Way” logo to the rest of the student body and the community.
The presentation was the culmination of nearly a year’s-worth of work as part of the school’s multi-tiered system of reports, focusing on the behavioral aspects of the school’s students.
The work on the logo began this fall with the school’s social groups when Gross asked the students to come up with some ideas for a new logo, one that emphasizes being respectful, responsible and ready.
From the initial challenge to create their own designs, which were judged by the school staff, four designs were chosen as finalists. Those submissions, and the designers who created them, were then taken to BHG, Inc. to work with designer Karen Krzmarzick to combine the four logos into one perfect logo that encompassed the ideals of the school.
Krzmarzick used the four winning submissions to get a start on the logo – she sent a first draft, and the students thought it needed a little tweaking, noted Gross. They sent back some of their ideas, and continued to work with Krzmarzick until the final day when they went to BHG to watch her put the finishing touches on the new logo and watch a T-shirt being made with the new logo.
