State argues to allow Coal Creek to continue
UNDERWOOD – The largest power plant in North Dakota could face a temporary shutdown of up to three years unless the Environmental Protection Agency approves the plant’s alternate liner application.
Earlier this year, Coal Creek Station was one of six stations which were denied applications for continued use of unlined surface impoundments. In a press release issued at the time by the EPA, the station was being held accountable for “controlling and cleaning up the contamination created by coal ash disposal.”
