Sprucing things up

If you’re one of the folks who has complained about the state of some of the city’s properties – whether they need a fresh coat of paint here or there, or need some dead trees and/or plain old garbage removed, now is your chance to chip in and help Underwood.

The Underwood Area Economic Development Corporation is holding its annual Beautification/Helping Hands Day starting at 9 a.m. this Saturday, May 16, at the city hall.

Folks are invited to volunteer to spend a few hours of their day to help make Underwood a prettier, more attractive city to live in and visit.

While some of the Beautification Day is pretty basic – putting out the benches and planting flowers up and down Lincoln Ave – there are some bigger projects that could use some help, noted UAEDC’s Diane Schell.

The group will be building a "pocket garden" between the former Harper’s Hardware Building and Sodas ‘n Things. They will be putting up a fence (for which they could use someone with some carpenter experience), adding some landscaping rocks (for which they could use a small loader with a bucket), and setting out some benches with flowers.
