The members of the Underwood Senior Center have already put their recent grant money windfall to good work, recently completing a renovation of the kitchen at the center in Underwood.
The Underwood Senior Citizens Club was a recipient of $5000 in grant monies that were recently awarded courtesy of the North Dakota Community Foundation’s Statewide Greatest Needs Fund. The foundation awarded more than $153,000 in recent grants, divvying out funds to 34 organizations statewide in an effort to work to improve the quality of life for state residents.
The remodel at the senior center in Underwood is a welcome change to the facility, agree club members Betty Fischer and Darlene Johnson.
“We feel like this will continue to be open for many, many years now,” said Johnson, who noted that meals are made not just for Underwood seniors at the center, but are also taken up to Garrison for seniors in that community, as well as Meals on Wheels home deliveries.
“We’re happy to have this kitchen center because it will keep our doors open,” said Johnson.
