The driver of a semi pulling a tanker-trailer was arrested on felony charges last week following a multi-county chase that ended in Washburn.
Daniel Beneda of Adams was booked into the Mercer County Detention Center late on April 3 after reportedly leading officers on pursuit through multiple counties. According to the McLean County Sheriff’s Department, a semi hauling an empty oilfield water tanker-trailer fled officials after a hit and run accident in Mercer County at around 10 p.m. that evening.
The subject vehicle, registered to Global Welding and Trucking of Dickinson, had reportedly driven recklessly and refused to stop for Mercer County officials prior to entering McLean County.
The vehicle encountered spike strips at the Walter Hjelle Bridge at Washburn, destroying the front driver side tire. The driver reportedly continued on N.D. 200A until becoming immobilized in the soft soil of a section line approximately 21 miles north of Washburn.
