After brief discussion during their regular meeting last Wednesday, members of the Underwood School Board unanimously voted to approve a proposed $2 million addition to the school building, which if everything goes according to plan, should begin next May.
Before voting, Supt. Brandt Dick outlined the proposed contract, noting that the $2 million estimate indicates architecture, engineering, surveying and construction management fees.
The board approved the hiring of J2Architecture and Design, PC, the firm that designed the addition, and approved establishing a selection committee consisting of six members, including an engineer and contractor, board members and administration, which will make a recommendation on who the builder will be following bid opening.
Before approving the building, board president Jim Leroy expressed his concerns to the board.
"Are we covering everything that we feel we want to do," he asked. "I feel I’m comfortable with the dollar amount, and I want to make sure everyone is comfortable that we’re getting what we want. . . let’s make sure that we’re covering all our needs."
