Saxberg takes commission seat

Before tackling any city business Thursday night, the Underwood City Commissioners took care of some commission business – that being naming the newest member to the commission, one who would replace former commissioner Jay Snyder who recently resigned.
Two of the applicants for the six-month position, which will be up for election this June, were at Thursday’s meeting to answer any questions from the commission, while the third, John (Jack) Welch was not in attendance. In attendance were applicants Dan Saxberg and Paul Cabrera.
After a few questions from the commissioners, and both applicants indicating they would run for commission positions this coming June if not chosen, the commission voted to accept the application of Dan Saxberg.
Commissioner Patti Werre noted Cabrera is already pretty well versed in how the commission and other city entities work, as he has attended several commission meetings as well as planning and zoning meetings, saying she thought he would easily be able to step into a commission spot if elected this June. The current position is filling an unexpired six-month term, which could be looked as a way for someone with less experience to get acquainted with city government, preparing him for a full-term if elected, following up with the nomination of Saxberg for the position.
Saxberg was unanimously approved, taking his seat at the commission table for the remainder of the meeting.
