During the process of hiring new city employees, specifically a new public works superintendent and janitor, during the Oct. 3 meeting, Underwood commissioners took time to recognize the work of one long time employee at the senior center. Mayor Rick Olson opened the meeting by welcoming Sharlene Krantz and her husband Leonard to the meeting. Olson presented Krantz with a gift to show their appreciation as she retires after 17 years of service as baker for the Underwood Senior Center. Olson told Krantz that in the time that she has been gone, the senior citizens have already expressed how much they enjoyed her baking. Olson said, “You will be greatly missed.”
Commissioners received three applications to replace Krantz as baker at the Underwood Senior Center. Schell told commissioners that the position runs from 1 to 4 p.m. for two to three days a week. After brief discussion, commissioners decided to have Olson talk with the Senior Center manager and their officers to see how they want to handle hiring a new baker. Commissioner Jay Snyder and Olson agreed to represent the commission during the interview process.
