Safe House volunteers needed in Underwood

Recent events stemming from a child luring investigation in Underwood led to a significant donation by local business Cottingham Insurance. The business donated enough funds to start a Safe House program in Underwood. The McLean County Sheriff’s Department is leading the start up of the program following a community meeting two weeks ago. The community is asked to come out again to become volunteers in the Safe House program. Those who would like to volunteer in the Safe House program are asked to fill out an application at 7 p.m. on Nov. 15 in the Underwood City Hall, according to certified police officer Becky Daughters of the McLean County Sheriff’s Department. Daughters is heading up the program in the county. The Sheriff’s department has gone to local gaming associations with requests for funds to start safe house programs. While that funding could come through, Amanda Haseleu of Cottingham Insurance said she wanted to make sure that the program started sooner than later, which prompted the generous donation.
